As noted on their site, this is formerly a Days Hotel; so if you’ve stayed at a Days Inn or equivalent hotel, you know exactly what to expect. No frills, but it’s right on the beach and my wife and I found the rooms to be clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. There is a really nice pier right next to the hotel which was fun to walk out on and adds some interesting scenery if you’re in to photography. There are also some nice restaurants very close by. Check out Bubba’s across the street and the Conch Cafe maybe a mile south of the hotel.
If you’re sensitive to noise, you’ll note that there is a karaoke bar (Scotty’s bar) on one side of the hotel that is quite noisy. My wife and I stayed on the opposite side of the hotel from it, and couldn’t hear it… so if you’re on the south side of the hotel and it is bothersome just ask to be moved. Also, the rooms are all listed as "ocean view"… which isn’t incorrect… you can see the beach and the ocean from all their rooms. I had envisioned in my head that an "ocean view" room would be an "ocean facing" room, and that is not the case… if that makes sense. This wasn’t a problem at all… just not exactly what I had in my head when I walked in the room. Basically the side of the hotel points straight out to the ocean and the rooms then face roughly north and south. Again, this isn’t a misadverstisement on their part, just an incorrect perception on mine.
This was our first time to Surfside, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. With it being so close to Myrtle Beach I was halfway expecting it to be very much like Myrtle… and was happy to see that it wasn’t. Surfside is very low key and family oriented… no loud crazy parties going on at all hours of the night (well, with the exception of Scotty’s LOL, but it was VERY mild compared to Myrtle). I would definitely go there again.
