My wife and I stayed here a couple weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location of the hotel is of course the draw to the place. I’m confident in saying you won’t get a better Monument Valley experience.
The only problem we had with the hotel was with the AC. When we arrived, the room was about 80 degrees, and I couldn’t get the AC unit to come on. I called the front desk and was put on hold for 10 minutes.. (LAME). I finally hung up the phone and walked down to the desk. After a brief conversation with the person at the desk (whom I admittedly vented on a little bit for putting me on hold for so long) he immediately stopped what he was doing and come up to our room and fixed the issue. The guy explained that someone had called in that day and they were short handed, which was obvious after watching for a minute. He also said that
the AC units were a common complaint and they were in the process of replacing them all with units that were easier to operate (you apparently had to push the "set date / time" button, scroll through a few things, and then it would let you set the temp; very strange). Despite my brief frustration, I felt the situation was handled well, and over all it seems like the hotel "gets it".
I would recommend a few changes for The View. Currently you have to pay $11 / person for breakfast. Granted it was a really good breakfast, but at the rates they’re charging (our room was $215) I would kind of expect that breakfast would be included. If nothing else, raise the prices slightly and make it all-inclusive… it’s not like you really have any other options out there. I did generally feel like the prices at the restaurant were fair, and the food was good… but like I said, you either eat there… or you drive 45 minutes. I would also recommend a pool and / or spa. The View already has the look and feel of a resort… might as well go ahead and make it one. In its current state, I really couldn’t see staying there more than one night. Two at the most.
While you’re there, definitely take the scenic drive just out from the hotel. It’s worth the time invested and offers some beautiful views. Mind the speed limit though (or go slower!)… it gets rough in places.
Overall we REALLY enjoyed our stay, and would recommend it to anyone.
