Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you’re all having a nice weekend and have had time to spend with friends and family.
I mentioned in my post last week that one of my goals for my trip to Joshua Tree National Park this year was to capture scenes that were more indicative of the park. Nothing screams “Joshua Tree” quite like the Joshua Trees themself! Another goal I had was to shoot wider. In recent years I’ve been leaning towards shooting tighter and tighter scenes, which I still like, but I wanted to really push the amount of dust I was capturing lately, and to do that, you really need to shoot wide. Also, the last two Joshua Tree images I’ve captured and really liked were tighter focal lengths (here and here), so I wanted to do something different.
All that said, there are a couple areas of the park I like to shoot the trees. There are a couple really flat areas that have loads of trees, and very little in the background when facing south, which I really like. I’ll be sharing a few Joshua Tree images in this series, but I wanted to start with this one because of how much detail I was able to capture in the sky. For my own notes I was calling this the “double tree” image, but very few of the trees have names (that I know of anyway), and they’re all right by the road essentially.
