As others have said, get there as early as you can. I believe they said this part of the wall opens at 8:30 and we were there right around then. When you get to the wall, go to your LEFT. This will take you to the steepest part of the wall and AWAY from most of the people. It is not for the faint of heart though, there is a section with over 350 steps with no break. We climbed to the top and kept going past the "closed past this point" signs. According to our guide, you will not get in trouble for going past, but if you get hurt you’re on your own. If you continue on, the wall is unrestored but still very pretty and very peaceful. We ended up there on a Sunday, which I’m guessing is why there were so many people there and not what others had described. After we returned from the "wild" section of the wall and back closer to where the cable car drops you off the amount of people was unbearable. You literally had to push your way through the doorways to get through.
