Queue the John Denver song and pull up a chair, it’s story time! This fall we’ve had multiple mornings with really dense fog. The morning that a bulk of these images were taken was one such example, but the fog seemed to come and go in waves. In fact, if you look through the images below, the ones that are the densest fog is the same morning as the image above! I started out on Foothills Parkway, looking for a sunrise spot. I drove out the “old” side looking for a clear spot, when I finally admitted to myself there wasn’t going to be one! I then headed over to the “new” side, where I completely gave up on the idea of being able to see the sunrise, and instead decided to focus on the foggy road scenes instead. I’d shoot some, and then hop in the truck and drive a little ways further, stopping at the various overlooks and pull offs to see what I could find. At one point the fog started to thin a bit and so I started driving to see if I could find more fog, when I happened to look in my rearview mirror just in time to see the scene above playing out. I immediately pulled over and started photographing the beautiful light filtering through the trees. The light lasted a nice amount of time, but by the time I got back to my truck, the fog was rolling back in again, thick as ever. So glad I stopped! Even though I was in the mindset to photograph fog by this time, this scene ended up being my favorite of the outing.
Below in the Alternative Perspectives section you’ll find a collection of other road scenes – some foggy, some not – that I collected throughout this fall. I hope you enjoy them!
More next week!
