When my buddy Mark and I pulled up to the parking area at Paac Kü̱vü̱hü̱’k, this big rock really stood out to me. I walked around it and tried to work out how I would photograph it at night, and how I might want to light it up. I had spotted the little cave on the right side and had wondered what it might look like to put a light in there – if I could get it bright enough to be interesting. Well, it turns out I didn’t have to wonder for very long. As we were exploring around the area a family showed up – complete with some sort of propane fire pit thing – and proceeded to take up residence inside the cave, and it was BRIGHT! Fortunately it was a bit cold for them, even with the firepit, and they bailed soon after dark, allowing us to better control the lighting of everything else. I’m not sure how legal that all was, but it definitely made for an interesting image!
As with the sky from the last image I shared from the Junk Yard, this one is also special in that it offers a fuller view of the objects in the sky than I have previously been able to capture, thanks to a new filter I got earlier this year. Yay for technology changes! Differing from that shot, however, this image looks a little more to the north, showcasing parts of the sky that were out of frame.
More next week!
