A number of years ago I really fell in love with the chimneys that live in the forest at Elkmont. The only remains of a once vibrant vacation community and logging town, the chimneys serve as a reminder of the history of the place. This year when I visited the chimneys the one that really caught my eye was the one you see above. Actually to be completely honest, it was the brilliant color surrounding the chimney that caught my eye, but it sure helped that the chimney was in the scene as well.
As I’ve been photographing this fall, there were a number of mornings where the fog was really dense, as you’ll see below. It was actually a foggy morning the day I shot the chimney above even, but in that particular scene you really can’t see it (it had lifted momentarily while I was in that location). Even without the fog, I found several trees that I really liked the shape of, or the color around their trunks.
More next week!
