Downtown Knoxville in Fall Colors

If ever there was a most Instagram-able location in Savannah, the Wormsloe State Historic Site is it!  In fact, this spot is so popular, I considered not even posting this image because it’s been done so many times before (you may even remember it from a scene in Forrest Gump!).  BUT alas, I really like the shot – it’s popular for a reason; it’s beautiful!  Wormsloe is one of Savannah’s many plantation sites that you can visit, but is unique because of the mile-long driveway that leads onto the property, which is flanked by 400 live oak trees, many of which were planted in the 1890s.  In fact, it’s this drive that people come to see, not a house or gardens.  The original fort / house was constructed in the 1730’s and is long-since gone, but there are, however, a number of exhibits to see (including a very interesting period gardening site) and a beautiful walk through the forest.  As I mentioned, its extremely popular, but fortunately it was raining for part of the time we were there, which seemed to have kept at least some people away (I admittedly had to wait quite a while to get this shot with no cars in it).

For me, I can never get enough of these old trees with the Spanish moss hanging from their limbs.  The archway look of the tree is just classic, and lucky for me, a nice bit of light shown through the trees as the clouds were breaking overhead.

More next week!
