Even if you’ve never been to Tokyo, it is quite possible that you – like I did – have a very Hollywood image in your head of Tokyo looks like. I imagined very traditional Japanese architecture, mountain top temples, people walking around in kimonos; and while you can find all those things in and around the city, that is definitely not the feel of the place. Tokyo is a VERY modern city, and a massive one at that. By comparison, Tokyo is more than 500 square miles BIGGER than New York city, and has about 5 million more people. It is quite mind boggling really.
For this week’s Picture of the Week, what I wanted to do was share a number of images I captured from around the city that I hope will help craft your ideas about what the city looks like. Most of these were captured from the Tokyo SkyTree, that worlds tallest tower (not building), at just over 2,000 feet in height. It provided a great vantage point, and I felt like a unique view of the city down below and in the distance. The image above was actually captured from my hotel restaurant. I started taking my camera to breakfast with me in the mornings when I realized that Mt Fuji could be seen from there. One morning in particular I was blessed with the beautiful view you see above.
More next week!
