On to Warsaw! For the past two weeks, Picture of the Week has been in Wroclaw, Poland, but this week we move on to Warsaw.  As I mentioned last week, Holly and I were in Poland for a dear friend’s wedding.  This was actually our sixth trip to the country, but despite having been there numerous times, we’d never been to Warsaw, Poland’s capital.  On previous trips, we’d entered Poland by way of Germany (Berlin is closer to the city in Poland we visit than Warsaw) and had just never taken the time to visit.  On this trip, however, because of COVID restrictions, our only option was to enter through Warsaw.  Since we now have friends who live in the city, it was a great opportunity to catch up with them AND see some of the sights.  More about our friends in a minute.

While in Warsaw, Holly and I rented an Airbnb in the old town, which was absolutely amazing.  In the morning’s and evenings I’d just go wander the streets with my camera.  While exploring, one of the many churches there kept catching my eye, St. Martin’s church.  The tight streets of the old town made it particularly challenging to get a good picture of it though.  On one morning though, as Holly and I were exploring, we happened to walk past this alley pictured above.  It was literally one of those moments where you walk past something, halt in your tracks and back up to see it again.  For the shot above I really just loved the soft lighting, and how the tower was barely peaking through between the buildings.  If you thumb through the Alternative Perspective images below, you’re likely to spot the church again – hint – the building is yellow and the top of the tower is green!

Before that though, let me share a quick story. On our stop over in Warsaw, Holly and I got to spend time with our friend Zuzia and her boyfriend Andrzej, whom we’d not yet met.  Well Zuzia and Andrzej told us they had a surprise for us Sunday morning, and what a surprise it was!  Knowing that I like cars, after an amazing pancake breakfast, they rented a little – no, tiny – 1970s-era Polski Fiat, and drove us around downtown Warsaw (Poland has this car share service that you can rent all sorts of cars from, just using an app. So cool!). How cool is that!? Touring around town in a classic Polish car; so much fun.  We then swapped out the Polski Fiat for an early 90’s model two-door Mercedes for some more cruising, before heading off to church.  It was such a fun and unique experience, I just had to share it here.  See below for a couple pictures.

More next week!
