What a week! I’ve had this picture planned for this week for several weeks now, but the fact that it landed on today is very apropos, but more on that in a moment.
For a good number of years now my family has taken a yearly vacation to the beach, which we’ve dubbed Camp Manitou (named after the kids camp in Herman Wouk’s City Boy – you can read about the naming of the trips here). This year’s trip was to Hilton Head, a first for Holly and I, and several months in to the global pandemic, which is needless to say was a first for all of us! To commemorate the occasion we thought it would be fun to do a family picture inside, with all of us wearing our masks and reading books (a hallmark of the family vacations – the books, not the masks), in addition to the traditional family photo outside in the surroundings of the place where we are. Despite the travel worries and extra hassles associated with the COVID-era, we all had a great time, and I think we may have even developed some new traditions for our trip (like doing takeout, rather than dealing with crowded restaurants with long waits).
Now, back to this week. If you know me personally and / or follow me or one of my family members on Facebook, you’ve seen that the Thompson family have had quite the week. Last Saturday my mom fell and broke her wrist. She had surgery to fix all that up on Tuesday, and then my dad had a heart attack Tuesday night. 😮 Well, after two procedures at two different hospitals, dad is back home, and both he and mom are well on their way to recovery. What a blessing modern medicine, along with teams of medical professionals are!! I said this on Facebook and I’ll say it again here, THANK YOU so much to everyone who prayed for us, called, texted, sent messages, brought (and continue to bring) food. It has been so helpful and appreciated. We feel so fortunate to have such wonderful friends.
More next week (but please, no more craziness!)
