I’ve mentioned many times that I always struggle to find things to photograph during the winter. Well, this winter I managed to find a few projects that kept me busy, and this week’s image is one of them.
The Foothills Parkway is a place I go on a very regular basis. For those that don’t live in the area, the Parkway is a road that runs along the ridge line of some of our foothill mountains, with numerous pull offs and overlooks. If you’ve followed along with my blog for any amount of time, you’ve seen a number of shots from there. In my younger years, I used to rock climb a LOT, and Look Rock at the top of the Foothills Parkway was one of my regular play grounds. Suffice it to say, I’ve driven that road hundreds if not thousands of times in my life time.
When it was announced last year that the unfinished section of the road would finally be opening (it sat unfinished for decades… long story), I was ecstatic! A new section of road to drive, new overlooks to shoot from, and who knows what else. Well, at the highest part of this new section is an area known locally as the “missing link”, which consists of several long bridges (part of the reason it took so long to finish), and it is just GORGEOUS. The first time I drove it I spotted the S curve featured above, and I knew I had to figure out a way to capture it. Since it’s a road, it seemed obvious to use my Camaro (right? 🙂 ) somehow in the shot, and since I love night photography, I had to work that in somehow too… and the above image is what I ended up landing on.
More next week (though I promise it won’t be of my car)!
