If you're going to visit Philadelphia, the "Rocky" stairs should definitely be on your list of things to see. The stairs themselves are at the front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and were of course made famous by Sylvester Stallone running up them in a scene from the original Rocky movie. At the top of the stairs you'll find the bronze shoe prints in the picture above, and as you're looking at the museum from the road, to your right is a large statue of Rocky that you can have your picture made in front of. A bit of a warning, there are two "homeless" guys that work the area, volunteering to take your picture in front of the statue and then asking for a tip afterwards. I'll let you be the judge, but it is rumored the guys are not in fact homeless, and have been doing this for years. Whatever the true story, I'll let you make the call on whether or not to use them. The pictures did turn out nice though. 🙂
As for the museum itself, I guess I've been spoiled by all the free museums in Washington, DC, so the $20 entrance fee seemed a bit high… that, and the place is HUGE and we didn't want to commit the time to see it all. They do boast having some original Rodin pieces (several scupltures and a copy of The Thinking Man, which he himself made). Even if you don't go in the museum though, it is still worth a visit just to see the building as it is quite beautiful. You'll no doubt see it as you drive through the area.
