Before taking a break for Memorial Day, I had started a series on the Cataloochee side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This week’s Picture of the Week is from inside the Beech Grove School house there in the valley. The school itself I find to be uninspiring from the outside (it’s basically a box), but the inside is quite interesting. The school features a sliding wall that allowed them to partition off rooms in the building. The school is also complete with rows of these cool old desks… which have been the subject of a few Tremont Scavenger Hunt questions over the years. The desks have “New Peabody” stamped on the side of them (if you’re on the scavenger hunt right now… you’re welcome. 🙂 ) and their construction always catches my eye. I anticipate they’ll survive another hundred years!
