Last year when Holly and I went to Poland, we had the pleasure of getting to know Agatka and her brother Jakub while serving in the kids camp. This year while in Szczecin, we got the opportunity to spend time with them again, as well as their parents Greg and Barbara. They were one of two families (more on that next week!) that invited us into their homes for dinner and we had a wonderful time.
Greg (who will have to forgive me for not using the Polish spelling of his name, I am certain I would butcher it) is a chef by trade, and a really good one at that. Holly and I were absolutely stuffed when we left, but even better than the food was the fellowship. During the evening we got to share our life stories and our stories of faith. Greg remembers vividly what the transition from Communism to Democracy looked like in his country. As I was listening to his story I was struck by this reality; as Holly and I were growing up in elementary school here in America, he was living through a revolution in Poland. Its funny how much we take for granted here in the US, and this was a good reminder that our experiences here are very different from a lot of our brothers and sister’s experiences around the world.
