I know I’m getting old because I’m starting to tell “back when I was younger stories”… and this just happens to be one of those. 🙂
Way back when I was in Boy Scouts, our Scout Master took us on a hike that was exciting for two reasons; 1) it was an off trail hike and 2) it involved caves. Specifically a waterfall falling in to a cave. Back then, White Oak Sinks wasn’t publicized and typically the only vehicle in the parking lot besides your own was an occasional horse trailer. Not so anymore! Several national magazine articles and a Heartland Series episode later and you’re lucky to find an illegal parking spot in the grass! Pretty crazy for a spot that isn’t recognized by the National Park Service. Crowds or no crowds, it is still a beautiful spot and one well worth visiting. There is definitely a reason it gets a lot of attention now that people know about it.
Last week I mentioned that a friend of mine had come in from Oregon State a little while back, and this is one of the places he was wanting to go. We managed to just BARELY beat the rush (we got to the parking lot just before 9AM and found an easy spot in the grass) and lucked out with the amount of water coming off the falls (it can be just a drizzle if it hasn’t rained much).
Have you made it back there yet?
