So last week I mentioned that I’ve never been one to be all that excited about what University you graduated from… unless of course you graduated from MIT, in which case I would be extremely impressed. Well, all that is not to say that I didn’t at least want to see Harvard. I mean, it is Harvard after all!
The time of year that I was in the Boston area was not all that conducive to pictures. All the leaves were off the trees and not many flowers had begun to bloom… so everything was just sort of bare and brown. My mind immediately went to architecture as potential subjects, since nothing has to be colorful to pull that off, but unlike MIT, I really had no idea what I was after. I did, however, have a plan.
In his book called Vagabonding, Rolf Potts discusses strategies for seeing new places, and encourages people to simply explore. His idea is to “take off walking until your day gets interesting”, and so that’s what I did. I just picked a direction… and started walking. Along the way to wherever I would end up, I stumbled upon First Church in Cambridge, and that’s where my day got interesting.
First Church in Cambridge is a neat old stone church with these really beautiful doors. As I was working my way around the building, photographing different aspects and lines that I liked, a woman wearing a First Church of Cambridge polo shirt walked up to me and struck up a conversation. After exchanging pleasantries, she asked if I would like to see the inside of the church sanctuary. Of course I wanted to see the sanctuary! She showed me the way in and told me to stay as long as I liked. The picture above is what welcomed me. As luck would have it, the lighting inside was awesome, and of course the inside of the sanctuary was spectacular!
Where are you going to explore today?
