Train tracks make great converging lines

Last week in Picture of the Week I mentioned how freaky it was standing in an abandoned train tunnel and hearing a train coming… even knowing full well that train wouldn’t be coming through the tunnel I was standing in.  Well, this week I’m sharing a picture I took of the actual train tracks.  These are the ones that you should move yourself when you hear a train coming!

My eye is always drawn to lines that seem to converge off in the distance.  Whether it be a nice flat road, or perhaps even the walls of a canyon, the leading lines generally play well in a nicely lit image, in my opinion.  I’m also usually drawn to repeating patterns because it gives an order to things… so naturally, train tacks are fun for me to photograph.  The lines give me the sense that we’re going somewhere, and that there is a plan.

Speaking of going somewhere and plans, this week we get to start a bit of an adventure.  Our friend Nico from Poland is coming to stay with us for a few weeks, and Holly and I are totally excited.  It will be fun to see the area through his eyes, and to get to experience the things that are “normal” to us, for the first time all over again.  I’m hoping to share some of what we do on this blog.  I’m not sure what shape that will take just yet, but pay attention… I’m certain something entertaining will come from it all!
