Of all the cabins and buildings in the Cades Cove section of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, I think that the Carter Shields cabin is my favorite. I had been trying to make it out there several times this season but it seemed that every time my wife and I would go we would get to the cabin too late (i.e. after dark) for pictures. A couple weeks ago though we went up there just for this sole purpose and took the Hyatt Lane bypass road to make sure we got there in time… turns out it was peak weekend in the park for leaves!
